Our History
Jonathan Szarek, owner of the company, began in the Southern New Hampshire area as a one-man painting operation in 1983. As the economy grew and changed over the years, he saw a need to grow and change also. He continued to develop his skills, growing the company and taking on larger and more technical projects.
In 1987, Jonathan took a six month residence in Naples, Florida to apprentice under one of Florida’s finest tile and stone craftsman, Mr. Rex Rousseau. The knowledge of high-end tile and stonework acquired under his apprenticeship has given Jonathan the versatility to be able to go beyond the completion of fine cabinetry; to high-end kitchens, baths, flooring, and allowing him to offer custom tile and stonework limited only by the client’s imagination.
In 1993, he acquired the Massachusetts Multi-level Construction Supervisors license, having passed one of the most difficult construction licensing tests in the country. He continued in the residential field, gaining knowledge quite literally “from the foundation to the roof peak”. Because of this experience, he possesses the ability to not only create fine cabinetry, but understand how its installation affects the space and structure in the home.
The “draw towards wood” was always present in Jonathan's work. The unique graining, texture and smell of various exotic and domestic woods led Jonathan to gravitate in the direction of fine wood craftsmanship. Never one to be a “conformist”, Jonathan’s work reflects this nature. Whether it’s his trademark “Curved Spar Deck” or a custom designed cabinet, Jonathan’s designs avoid “Cookie cutter work” (continually producing the same item or finish). Never are there two jobs that are alike, and his dedication to meeting and exceeding his clients expectations have earned him a respected reputation of one of New England’s finest Master Craftsmen.
Latest Innovations
Currently we are working to develop a line of chemical free furniture and cabinetry for those people with multiple chemical sensitivity, allergies, or those who just would like to minimize their exposure to chemicals in our world. There are several levels of changes that we have made to create a choice for each individual according to their needs. There are obviously trade-offs to be made when discarding the modern chemical solutions to the mechanics of building and finishing furniture and cabinetry. The most modern and best solutions to several of the furniture makers’ needs are not necessarily the healthiest. Some of them are made with harsh chemicals and some of the finishes have those chemicals still in them – at least until they are dry – and leave traces of them long after. In the process of eliminating these products, craftsmen often have to substitute products which are either more difficult to work with, require special considerations in construction, or do not last as long as the less wholesome alternatives. We continue to press on and develop this line of user-friendly wood products.
Our Mission
To create the finest design and finish attainable for each job. To carefully build each piece the way you would make it yourself, with attention to all the details that transform furniture and cabinetry into heirlooms. We use only solid hardwoods on our furniture and solid hardwoods and hardwood plywood (no particle board) in our cabinetry construction. We offer all of our pieces in a variety of domestic and exotic woods, such as, but not limited to; Cherry, Mahogany, Maple, Oak and Walnut.
